You should come prepared with a song that you can also act during. You only need to do a monologue if you are going for a solo part or if the role you want (listed below) has monologue written next to it.

Please try to choose a song that fits the era — we prefer you to not sing any pop songs and we ask that no one sing “Lost Boy” by Ruth B.

Rehearse your introduction, monologue and song in front of family and friends!

Make sure your sheet music is ready and marked with a start and end position for the pianist. It should be in a book, folder, or 3 ring binder to give to the pianist. Please use sheet music with an accompaniment part, if you plan to use one of your actor books/scripts from a past SAYT production please know that it does not have the accompaniment in it and will not be sufficient.

On the day of auditions:

Please arrive at the center 10 minutes prior to your scheduled audition time to check in.

An assistant will bring you to the audition room – if you have a resume you should bring it in with you and give it to the director at the audition table. You will then give the accompanist your music. We prefer you to audition by yourself but we understand that auditions can be scary so please do what you need to be comfortable — your parent may come into the room if you need them to!

Your introduction should consist of the following:

Hello, my name is _____________. I will be singing _______________________ and doing a monologue called (from, as the character of, a selection from, etc.) _________________________.

(You can decide what order you want to go in, if your monologue leads into the song you can start with that — if you are only singing that is fine too!)

After your audition:

You are free to go with your parent or guardian. A callback list will be posted on our facebook page & website by 12:00pm on Thursday, January 4th.
